Church History
The first group of Czech people to come to Wahoo arrived in August of 1874. These people, who were of the Catholic, and had to travel 15 to 20 miles in order to attend mass. For three years people traveled to Fremont to attend mass. Finally in 1877, the Reverend F. Sulak arrived from Chicago to hold masses for the local Catholic congregation. Masses were held in the Court House or the public schools. By July 1878, a church had been completed in Wahoo, even though it was only 30' x 50'. Over the next 45 years, a new church was built on Linden, enlarged and finally in 1924 the present Gothic style building was dedicated. This church, measuring 126' by 54' was constructed at a cost of $100,000.
Saint Wenceslaus
Saint Wenceslaus was
the Duke of Bohemia from 921 until his death on September
28th, 935 where he was going to a feast his younger brother
was having and on the way his brother Boleslav had three of
his friends kill Saint Wenceslaus. Saint Wenceslaus lived
with his grandmother Saint Ludmila most of his life.
Saint Wenceslaus feast day is September 28th, he became a
patron saint due to his martyr death and some miracles he
had after his death.
