The History of St. Mary and Joseph

Mary: She is the mother of Jesus. An angel named Gabriel came up to Mary and told her that she was going to have a son, and was to name it Jesus. She married Joseph and they raised Jesus together. Mary has as many as 25 feast days, but some of the popular ones are on March 25th - The Annunciation, August15 - The Assumption, August22 - The Assumption Coptic-Orthodox

Joseph: He was a carpenter, who was called to become Mary’s husband, and be the father of Jesus. He is a man of faith and is obedient to what ever God asks him to do. Because not one word of his is recorded in Holy Scriptures, St. Joseph is the silent figure of three persons in the Holy Family. There are two feast days celebrated in the catholic church for Joseph: March 19 for Joseph the Husband of Mary and May 1 for Joseph the Worker.

The History St. Mary and Joseph's catholic church

David Beringer was the architect that designed St. Mary and Joseph catholic church. But before the church was built their were two separate churches, St. Mary's in Valparaiso, and St. Joseph's in Agnew. Father Glaves was the priest of both churches at the time and he said the "space was a problem". So instead of having two separate churches, the members of the two congregations made a decision that they would build a bigger church in Valparaiso that would hold all 757 member of both churches. The new church was built in 1974. Then Bishop Glennin P. Flavin dedicated the new church in honor on St. Mary and Joseph on August 21, 1977. So it became know as St. Mary and Josephs catholic church.
