Alumni Office News

2009 Phonathon

Phonathon 2009 was held on Sunday, November 15 at Sandhills Publishing in Lincoln. Thank you to Neumann Alumni, Joel Woita, Pat Sullivan, Anita Bartek Rockenbach, Renee Pearson Policky and Mark Bartek for taking the time to come to Lincoln and make calls. A special thanks to Fr. Townsend, Sr. Michelle and Theresa Klein for helping with the event. Lastly thank you to the Bishop Neumann National Honor Society members Kelly Garagiola, Christina Albin, Antonia Rada, Jesse Sladky, Pete Breunig, Ben Fisher, Dylan McGill, Holly Fujan, Tessa Klein, Paula Byrd, Lexi Woita, Susan Brabec, Becky Rezac and students Shanna Engel, Rosie Hardy and Natalie Rexova. They did an outstanding job calling alumni. Way to go Students!

The total of pledges for Sunday’s event is not yet calculated, but an early mailing was sent out to Neumann Alumni giving them a chance to give a gift ahead of time. Over $12,000 has been received from that mailing with more coming in every day.

Our Alumni are all over the world and are a very important facet of our school. The appreciation for the great education they received at Bishop Neumann is reflected in our annual Phonathon totals. You would be amazed at how many of our Bishop Neumann alumni stay connected to our school in some way. If you have family members coming home for the holidays that would like to come and see the new additions to the school the alumni office would be happy to give a tour. Just call Sheri Meduna at Neumann to set up a time.

2009 Alumni and Staff Memorial Mass

On Monday, November 2nd a special Memorial Mass for deceased alumni and staff was held at St. Wenceslaus Church. Family members of all the deceased Neumann and Wahoo Catholic alumni and staff were invited to the Mass. A cookie and coffee reception was held in the Church basement after the Mass for the families. Members of the National Honor Society were asked to bring cookies for the reception and Society Members Paula Byrd, Lexi Woita, Susan Brabec, Theresa Buse and Faculty Sponsor Mary Sydik helped at this event. Thanks again Honor Society, your help was very much appreciated.

Reunion Night 2009

Reunion Night 2009 held on August 7, 2009 welcomed family members, current and former faculty, and guests to reminisce and rekindle past friendships. While we honored the classes of 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989.1994, & 1999 we realize that affection for friends made while attending Bishop Neumann is not limited to one's class year. It was wonderful to see so many alumni, beyond the honored classes, attend this year's reunion, renewing ties to the school and friends from other graduating classes. All the alumni in attendance were able to flashback in time by enjoying a power point presentation of pictures from their decade. Another big hit was scrapbooks and yearbooks placed on the tables reserved for their graduating class.

We are again hoping for bigger and better next year as we again bring to Wahoo the alumni of the 1990's. The night will also be for those classes who are celebrating special reunions. This year's classes will be those that end in five and zero. Anyone from those classes who would like more information about the evening, just send a note to Neumann or email Alumni Director Sheri Meduna.

Alumni Participate in 2009 “Friends of Neumann” Golf Tournament

The Annual "Friends of Neumann" Golf Tournament was again a great success! On Saturday, August 8, 2009 ten teams of Cavalier alumni and friends enjoyed a beautiful course, delicious lunch and wonderful prizes. This year's top team was an alumni team consisting of Coach Paul Johnson along with Ermin Snitily '63 and his boys Dave Snitily '86 and Mike Snitily '87. A special thanks goes out to Mike Lindley and Kurt Maly for organizing the event.

The funds made from the tournament go to the Guardian Angel Fund. This fund was set up to provide Guardian Angel Scholarships to Neumann students. These scholarships help families who are experiencing financial difficulties send their children to Neumann.
